Alticast Demonstrates Cloud Services and Security Solutions at IBC 2015

Alticast, a global partner for the delivery of media entertainment, will demonstrate how video service providers can deliver new cloud-based services and ensure the security of Ultra HD (UHD) content at IBC 2015.  The demonstrations will take place in the Alticast booth (1.F36), September 11-15, at the RAI Exhibition and Conference Centre in Amsterdam.

Key demonstrations at IBC 2015 will include:

·       The AltiPlex™ Cloud Services Platform (CSP), which allows service providers to virtually deliver, operate and manage multiscreen services. In addition, AltiPlex CSP provides:

Cloud UI, a server-client user interface (UI) rendering engine, enabling the migration of the UI from the STB to the cloud, while delivering an improved user experience (UX) to legacy and new STBs. This innovative solution can deliver multiple UIs to different devices in a household, for example a UI tailored for the children and one for the family.

Cloud DVR, a cloud-based recording, storage and multiscreen content delivery system. Providing time-shift viewing and live catch up services, this solution allows subscribers to watch anytime, anywhere. It supports multiple business and storage models allowing operators to build the system that meets their needs.

·       The new AltiProtect™ security solution as deployed by CJ Hellovision in Korea to protect its UHD content will be on display, highlighting the full line of AltiProtect CAS/DRM/DTCP-IP solutions. AltiProtect can be remotely installed onto legacy and new STBs as well as other devices with the AltiProtect Download and Exchange Framework.

·       An end-to-end solution comprised of AltiView™ UI, AltiPlatform™ STB software, AltiPlex, CSP and AltiProtect as deployed by a leading Vietnamese Pay TV operator to deliver live and on-demand services to STBs and mobile devices. This integrated solution has been deployed by the operator at several of its subsidiaries and was chosen for its completeness and because of Alticast’s experience in deploying turn-key solutions worldwide.

·       The Alticast Application Framework supports multiple hardware platforms, UIs and user agents to give operators the flexibility to deploy any combination of Android and RDK software on their STBs, allowing for both native and HTML5 applications. This exceptional flexibility enables operators to quickly and easily adapt to changing market needs.

Alticast's European Team wraps up ANGA COM 2015 with some key takeaways

ANGA Com 2015 has come to a close with 17,000 participants from 74 countries visiting over 450 vendor booths! From broadband to content, ANGA COM was brimming with new information leading to great excitement for the industry's future.

At Alticast’s booth, we featured demonstrations of our AltiPlex Cloud UI Platform, AltiView1, and Alticast Application Framework for both RDK and Android.

Alticast's EMEA President, Tiann Schutte, attends a customer meeting in the Alticast booth at ANGA COM.
Even though customer visits to the booth and demonstrating Alticast's developments took up most of our time, we were able to tour the trade floor and attend some very interesting conference sessions. Some key take-away highlights from this year's show were:

Multiscreen is now a defacto part of any TV offering and is no longer seen as a complementary feature. In fact, recent market research showed that 65% of U.S. mobile video viewers watch TV and phone videos at the same time.
The rise of VOD is happening. Many Pay TV operators in Europe are gearing up their OTT services to be able to compete with Netflix; thus, resulting in great choice of services for consumers.
The repackaging of linear content into catch-up, start-over, and nPVR is becoming a key Pay TV service offering. This is driven by the consumer’s insatiable demand for content at any time. It also is a key differentiator between TV operators and OTT providers.
Cloud continues to be a big theme. The Cloud's elements of cost-benefits, streamlining operations and improved customer experience are the drivers in this discussion. The Alticast Cloud UI demo was the most popular demo on the stand as operators investigate ways to virtualize the STB and deliver competitive and compelling user experiences.

Perhaps Michael Fries, President and CEO of Liberty Global summarized the “takeaways” of the show best in one of the conference sessions,  The deciding factor is not the content, but the user experience! It’s all about the app."

Julia Mooney, EMEA's Director of Product Management, welcomes a customer to the booth.

Alticast Shows Cable Operators how to use the RDK to Deliver New, Multiscreen Services at Cable Congress 2015

Alticast Demonstrates its Comprehensive RDK-based Solutions and Services

Amsterdam – March 4, 2015 – Alticast, a global partner for the delivery of media entertainment, will show European cable operators attending the upcoming Cable Congress trade show how to take advantage of the Reference Design Kit (RDK) to deliver new services.  The demonstrations will take place throughout the show (March 11-13) at The Square conference center in Brussels, Belgium at stand 17.

“Now that the RDK supports the popular European Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) standard it is far more applicable to the European cable market and Cable Congress is the ideal venue for us to demonstrate the potential of the RDK to operators throughout the continent,” said Tiaan Schutte, Alticast’s President for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).   “As one of the first vendors to get behind the RDK effort, Alticast has built a tremendous amount of experience with the RDK and our comprehensive suite of RDK-based tools and services can enable European cable operators and cable equipment vendors to take maximum advantage of the RDK.”

Alticast’s key Cable Congress 2015 demonstrations will include:

·          Alticast’s RDK solutions which include modular and customizable Application Framework building blocks (TVRUA) and User Interface components (AltiView) that support standard industry interfaces (HbbTV, OIPF, HTML5/CSS, Java Script/DLNA). These optional solutions enable operators to supplement or fulfill the operator platform with all of the components necessary for a robust and versatile RDK solution.

·          Alticast’s collaborative development environment for RDK code integration is a Cloud-based solution that enables system-on-a-chip (SoC) vendors, open software providers, multi-system operator (MSOs) and system integrators to utilize a single workflow and release structure for RDK code development.

·          Alticast’s Cloud UI application provides a thin client/server model for delivering the user experience to all devices in the home. This architecture reduces demands on the STB processor and memory by pre-processing the UI in the Cloud, enabling cable operators to use ‘thin client’ STBs.  Operators can take advantage of Alticast’s Cloud UI to deploy new user experiences (UX) much quicker. It also provides the opportunity to present a variety of UX in a household, for example a child-based, a sports or a movie experience.
